Today's young artist rarely has a personal art studio in which to splash paint, doodle with crayons, or scribble in chalk. Often, a child's bedroom doesn't afford space for an easel in addition to the obligatory desk. However, this ingenious desk from Lipper International provides a desk, easel, and chalkboard in one. Held aloft by a sturdy triangular frame, the desk's work surface rotates 360 degrees to convert from desk to easel positions. A chalkboard adorns one side of the work surface, with a laminate surface on the other.
Made in Thailand, the desk/easel's frame benefits from durable beech wood construction and is adjustable for varying heights. Children can paint either directly on the laminate surface, or affix construction paper. A broad board connects the two front legs of the triangular frame to enhance stability, while also containing a small shelf for stowing pieces of chalk, paintbrushes, and erasers. A chalkboard eraser and chalk are included. A nontoxic natural finish coats the wood to both enhance the appearance and prevent splinters. To clean the easel, avoid the direct application of water, ammonia, or other liquid cleaners to prevent damage to the wood. Rather, spray these liquids onto a cloth and then wipe the easel clean. Dry immediately. Lipper International advises against using markers of any kind on the easel, as even erasable markers leave permanent damage. Some assembly is required. As a table, this item measures 19-3/4 inches wide by 18-1/4 inches deep by 21-1/2 inches high. It measures 19-3/4 inches wide by 32-1/2 inches high as a chalkboard. The desk/easel has a base width of 23 inches.
