About Breyer Horses
The Breyer Horses
started in Chicago at the Breyer Molding Company. The company was based in Chicago, Illinois, and the first Breyer model horse was # 57 Western Horse, which was introduced in 1950. The five and dime Woolworth Company had requested this horse that was with a mantel clock, and from then the orders for just the horse begun flooding the Breyer Molding Company. The Breyer model horses start with an artist’s sculpture, then the horse is handcrafted, then hand painted. When a Breyer Horse is completed there are approximately twenty different artisans who handle, and play a part in the creation of the horse.
